A History of Kitchen Appliances

!±8± A History of Kitchen Appliances

The use of modern and luxurious kitchen appliances have made us quite dependent on them. Without the use of these, our lives would be much more difficult and cooking or baking would almost become impossible, given our busy life styles. Knowing about the history of these appliances and how they were invented concern many.

Previously, in the old ages, people used to cook food on bricks but later in the sixteenth century, people started looking for efficient, quick and safe cooking methods. Benjamin Thompson in the early 1800s invented an iron stove that had various holes and one fire. After this invention, new inventors came up with new ideas of large gas stoves that could fit into most kitchens. Electric stoves were invented in the 1930s and they soon became more popular than gas ones.

The history of the microwave dates back to 1946 when Percy Spencer discovered its underlying technology. He built a small metal box in which he placed food to check whether its temperature increased or not. His test was successful and he was the first one to come up with the idea of microwaves. These were available in the market at very high prices and were also very large in size. After further improvements in technology, various companies started manufacturing smaller sized ones. These were first used in restaurants, large hotels and food processing plants, and later became widely common and were owned by almost every household. Many new companies emerged that started producing quality kitchen appliances and aimed at making cooking an efficient and easy process.

Dishwasher, refrigerator, Cuisinart parts and other appliances are some other kitchen products that were introduced with the passage of time. Josephine Cochrane was the first one to invent a dishwashing machine in 1880s. She was the one who conceptualized the dishwasher, but her design did not attain much popularity because its use required large amounts of water. Better and easy to use designs were made by various companies that manufactured dishwashers powered by steam. Soon, these gained popularity and their ease of use and convenience made many people consider its purchase.

Advancement in technology made possible the manufacturing of many other kitchen products that were not possible to produce previously. Many new and well known companies have emerged that not only specialize in producing kitchen appliances but also produce their repair items such as Cuisinart parts.

Pizzelle Makers - What to Look For Before You Buy

!±8± Pizzelle Makers - What to Look For Before You Buy

I have heard about pizzelles -- the crisp, Italian, waffle-like cookie -- for years. My curiosity got the best of me and I decided to buy a grill this year. There are dozens of ads on the Internet and reading them made me even more curious.

Two types of makers are available, stove-top and electric. The stove-top is the maker of the past, a round, metal baker held over a fire or wood stove. I used to have a stove-top waffle maker. Though the heart-shaped waffles were delicious, making them was a chore, and I had to adjust the temperature constantly. This was not what I was looking for in a grill.

What is a pizzelle? According to the Magnia Bene Pasta website, it is a traditional Italian cookie. The name, which is similar to the word "pizza," means round and flat. Many other cultures, including the Chinese, also make flat cookies. "Early pizzelles often were embossed with the family crest or some hint of the village of origin," notes the website.

The Big city, Little Kitchen website describes the cookies as "crisp, lacy nibbles." Warm cookies may be dusted with powdered sugar, or set in muffin tins to make little baskets, or rolled into shapes. "Although it's annoying to buy and store an appliance that only does one job," the website comments, "there are so many ways to reinvent the pizzelle that I think it's worth it to invest in an iron."

Consider these points before you make a purchase.

1. Stove-top or electric? My glass stovetop has already cracked once and a stove-top maker could cause it to crack again. For this reason, I chose electric.

2. Number of cookies. Some grills make two cookies, others make three, and still others make four. Two cookies were fine with me. Even better, the electric makers have a non-stick coating.

3. Storage. Large makers take up more space, so I focused my search on small ones.

4. Reviews and blogs. The Internet has many reviews of makers and recipes. I read reviews about well-known brands only.

5. Extras. All of the makers I read about came with recipes. Some also had a measuring spoon and a wooden cone for rolling warm cookies. The rolled cookies are filled with whipped cream, ice cream, or pudding.

6. Price. Internet and store prices varied greatly. Surprisingly, the large department store in my town (part of a national chain) did not carry the grills. Local discount stores carried them, but they were only available from the Internet. I wanted to see the appiance before I bought it.

Which one did I choose? A Cuisinart. I bought it at a new kitchen store for off the list price. Now I am in cookie production and the house smells wonderful. The grill is stored upright and takes up hardly any room. These cookies taste good at holiday time and all year round. Are you thinking about buying a pizzelle grill? Go for it!

Why You Should Consider Buying USA Made Appliances

!±8± Why You Should Consider Buying USA Made Appliances

Shopping for new kitchen appliances isn't my favorite thing in the world to do, but it has to be done from time to time. One lesson that I've learned over the years is to try to buy U.S. made appliances if at all possible, as they're are often times better supported and backed with a better warranty. In this brief article, I'll go over a few reasons why you might want to consider buying appliances that are made in the USA -- even if they end up being slightly more expensive.

When it comes to appliances, one thing I've noticed is my US made machines are often backed by a longer warranty. For example, my blender is made in Cleveland, OH and is backed by an unconditional 7 year warranty. Sure, it cost a bit more than a Chinese-made competitor -- but I have no doubts that it'll be in service long after the competitors give out.

Another thing that I've noticed is better customer support. With my American made appliances, I usually get a native English speaking customer service representative on the phone when I call in and I end up with a better customer service experience as a result. This takes a lot of the frustration out of the equation when it comes to dealing with service issues, and it's a preference that I have.

Hopefully this short article has given you some food for thought when it comes to buying your next small appliance. Focusing on price alone can often rob you of much of the satisfaction that comes with owning an appliance, and you should always try to purchase the highest quality at the lowest available price.

Popular Brands of Belgian Waffle Makers and Waffle Irons - Choosing the Best Belgian Waffle Makers

!±8± Popular Brands of Belgian Waffle Makers and Waffle Irons - Choosing the Best Belgian Waffle Makers

Prior to every fine purchase on any merchandise, there are actually tons of things that consumers usually take into consideration so as for them to avoid from spending a large sum of money for something that does not worth its price. Because of the said reason, factors such as the durability of the product, its features and price tag are often meticulously scrutinized by consumers in order for them to favorably gain helpful information about the product which they are going to procure; otherwise, they will end up buying something that lasts only for a week of use.

The same is definitely true for consumers who are looking for waffle makers and waffle irons having good quality and worth spending for. Picky consumers do not simply rush in on making a product purchase because they basically believe that the dictum 'haste makes waste' is always true. Clinging on that dictum, they try to avoid, as much as possible, from perpetrating indiscriminate squandering of money lest they end up broke.

When consumers always want to have a rewarding procurement, it is of great significance for them to thoroughly examine the features of the waffle irons they want to buy. It is highly recommended that one should inquire immediately for the warranty of the waffle makers or waffle irons. This is because, more often than not, there are instances in which items or products newly bought would easily get damaged right after a week of use or just at the very first moment of using it. As there have been cases shown in customer reviews about their dissatisfaction of their newly bought waffle makers, one should therefore find out immediately the waffle maker or waffle irons' warranty and guarantee lest one will be in trouble in the future searching for costly remedies or solutions upon sorting out the problem.

Indeed, it is a nightmare when your newly purchased waffle maker or waffle iron gets busted during the first try. Because unwanted and upsetting situation, like products accidentally ruined, is truly inevitable, one should have the foresight of looking ahead of things. See to it that the product has one year warranty at the very least and can be repaired for free on some terms and conditions. Checking a product's warranty is perhaps the first and useful step in deciding what to buy. When you would buy something that has a dubious guarantee and has no warranty at all, then prepare yourself for dismal consequences.

Next, check the features and determine them yourself if the waffle maker is really effective and efficient for fast waffle making that will cater your specific needs. Since the waffler is brand-new, double-check its parts, which ought to be in a perfect condition. Double-checking on products' condition is necessary as some brand-new items have factory defects.

And finally, ponder upon the customer reviews on certain products. These genuine reviews are posted online to facilitate consumers in fast decision-making. However, some reviews might be untruthful and thereby mislead you from procuring the desired waffle makers. In cross-examining products, consumers can alternately follow their preferred procedures aside from those mentioned earlier.

Moreover, the following shows the catalog of some popular brands of Belgian Waffle Makers and Waffle Irons which are widely recognized to have top quality:

• Presto 03510 FlipSide Belgian Waffle Maker
• Waring Pro WMK300A Professional Stainless-Steel Belgian Waffle Iron
• Oster 3874 Flip Nonstick Belgian Waffle Iron
